Engagement Sessions are a great opportunity for us to learn more about our clients before their Wedding. Not just the wedding details, but other important things as well, such as how much do they love their Volkswagens? What do they do for fun when they aren’t standing in front of our big black cameras? Well for starters, it turns out that Annie has a lovely little VW Rabbit (it’s really adorable and made us long for our old VWs), and Sherwin is a chef who loves to cook things like brisket for his friends (now THAT is a good friend to have!). So it came as little surprise to us that we spent as much time laughing with, as we did shooting these two during their Jericho Beach Engagement Session. Check out some of our favorites from the day!

The benefit of shooting on a Monday, is that you can get the beach more or less to yourselves…

There is a certain point in a Session where couples really start to relax and enjoy it. Annie and Sherwin, you two look gorgeous together!

We could have ended the Session right here with Chris’ dramatic shot under the pier, but Annie had brought along another great dress, and there was a rumor that Sherwin had also brought along a little something to dress up with, so we decided to play around just a bit longer…

On a personal note, Annie and Sherwin’s Engagement Session was the first photo shoot for me since Quinn was born in March. It was so invigorating to be back behind the lens! Chris took a few images to capture some behind the scenes…

The beach was at quite an angle that day toward the water, so in case you’re wondering, I’m really not THAT tall!

OK, next time I’ll be sure to remember to capture Chris too!

Introducing Brittney and Michael – how cute are these two! We had an absolute blast getting to know these two better as we walked, talked and made some pretty pictures during their Yaletown Engagement Session. The sun was shinning, the temperature was warm, and the setting was ideal. Check out some of out favorites from their extended day into night session…

We then headed over to Raw Canvas for a glass of wine and some more relaxed portraits…

A few years ago we fell in love with night shoots, especially for Engagement Sessions. They are a little bit more intimate, a lot more glowy, and very fun. Check out this shot illuminated by a taxis headlights as it drove by…

Brittney and Michael wanted to incorporate some Vancouver landmarks, specifically the Woodwards ‘W’. This is how we did just that and here are a few of our favorite images from the session…

We first met Kim and Kevin at their home – they invited us over to meet for the first time, made us tea, and told us all about their wedding plans, and we fell in love with their kindness and enthusiasm. When we photographed their engagement session we witnessed how at ease they are with each other, and how when they look at one another, there is nothing but love in their eyes. We were treated to a sun drenched Fall day in Granville Island for their session, and can not wait to see these two tie the knot on their big day. Check out some of our favorites from the day.

“I want to go somewhere I can’t in my dress on my wedding day.” This was our instructions from Teresa when discussing the location for her and Jarratt’s engagement session. A request like this always makes our minds run wild with ideas filled with all sorts of mildly accessible locations. After talking a little bit more about their wedding day, which will be a the lovely Stanley Park Pavilion, we decided upon the more natural areas of Stanley Park with views toward the North Shore. Here are some of our favourites.

April 10, 2012 Jen + Mike = Engaged!

Vancouver weather…it can be a pain, and if you don’t believe me, just ask Jen and Mike. Every year we always have one couple who we just can’t seem to get any decent weather for their engagement session. This year, that couple was Jen and Mike. After rescheduling for the 4th time, Jen declared that it was happening ‘Rain or Shine’ and as such, planned accordingly. We were to meet up at the Pinnacle Hotel in North Vancouver, and make some pretty pictures inside the lobby and anywhere else we could find that was rain free, because despite our pleads to the weather man, the forecast was for rain…again.

What we got, was snow the night before, rain in the morning, and gorgeous sunshine halfway through the session, encouraging us to head outside for more.

January 27, 2012 Sophia + Mitch = Engaged!

When we first started talking with Sophia and Mitch about their engagement session, their love of snowboarding and Whistler come up again and again. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it up to Whistler, but we did the next best thing, and hit up one of our local mountains instead. Cypress was the destination of choice, and because Sophia and Mitch have been living out of province for the last few years, it was an all new again experience for them. I gotta say, I’m loving these Winter sessions we’ve been shooting lately, the cold crispness in the air gives everyone a little extra incentive to get just that little bit closer. Check our some of our favourites from our snowy fun-filled session with Sophia and Mitch!

Okay, so Sophia and Mitch like to have a little bit of fun every now and again, so who are we to say no to a quick wardrobe change – on the side of the snowy trail no less – followed by a little play in the snow?

The Fall is definitely one of our favorite times to get outside with our cameras, and it’s even better when we get to photograph a cute couple in love.

Mimi and Cam are two super smart cookies who are so delightful together, you can’t help but smile when you are around them! We had such a great time with them exploring around the Brock House Restaurant, where Cam proposed to Mimi not too long ago, and can’t wait for their Wedding at Cecil Green Park House next summer! Here are just a few of our favorites from our time together.

October 27, 2011 Jennifer + Marvin = Engaged!

We had such a blast hanging out with Jennifer and Marvin, and of course, shooting a few images along the way!

These two were so much fun, up for anything, and we got a little giddy when we saw that they brought along two bags of wardrobe and accessories to play with for the Session. OK, well I did…I love surprises! We surprised them back by adding a location that we’ve had our eye on for a while now, and one that we just stumbled upon, and the result was an Engagement Session that had a little bit of everything, and a lot of love. Plus, did I mention that I got to shoot some Jimmy Choos? Ahh…what a great day!

October 11, 2011 Shirley + Andy

Shirley and Andy’s Engagement Session was one of our favorites from 2011, and we can’t believe we haven’t shared some images until now! We held off for a bit because we knew that their friends and family were going to be receiving Save the Date Cards featuring images from this Session, and didn’t want to ruin any surprises, but now that they are safely married and their images were utilized all over their Wedding a few weeks ago, it is definitely safe to share these with you now.

There were so many elements that Shirley and Andy wanted to include into their Session, that we ended up doing a double session for them! Part one was a more relaxed Session with their distinguished and dignified pug Jose, and part two later that evening was an editorial-inspired Session which we affectionately termed their “Hot Winter Night”. Together, these Sessions really helped us get to know Shirley and Andy, and set our excitement meter over the top for their Wedding Day two weeks ago.

How cute is their little man, Jose? He was a star with the camera, and just look at that face! This next little family portrait ended up being the selected image for their Save the Date Cards.

And with Jose safely off to the side, we got a chance to work with just his “Mom” and “Dad”.

But we had to include him for at least one more image. I love how he ties them together.

Did we mention that Shirley and Andy rented a scooter for our Session too?! They both lived in Bermuda for a while, and this was their go-to form of transportation. It was so fun to incorporate into their Engagement Session! The next image was created in part to highlight Shirley’s Engagement ring, but while editing, I noticed the heart shaped pavement tiles in the reflection of the side mirror too. Perfect!

Chris had the idea for this next image. Way to work it Shirley! Thanks for playing along guys!

August 2, 2011 Lindsay + Bernie = Engaged!

Part of the success of finding the right “fit” when it comes to a photographer/client relationship, is when things just seem to come together seamlessly in the creative process, and a couple feels comfortable enough to trust their photographer to capture their relationship, and “see” their vision when they are looking for something in particular. We love it when couples bring their ideas to personalize their photo sessions, and we really get a chance to learn what makes our couple’s tick.

Lindsay and Bernie’s “Plan A” for their Session was great. But when they trusted their instincts when walking through the Olympic Village days before their Session and decided to switch locations and the feel of the Session, we were really excited. Not because the location offered something more or different for us, but because they felt that they had felt something that was really “them”. Here are a few of our favorites from the Session.

First, an explore around the Village…

As we walked through this grassy area, Lindsay asked if we could shoot a few frames of them lying down in the grass together. But of course!

Did we mention these two love to travel? Lindsay and Bernie have travelled extensively, and are getting ready for 6 months living abroad before their Wedding in the Spring! Lindsay brought along a few of their travel books, including 1000 Ultimate Experiences that lists the places you must see in your lifetime, and when we opened that one it was already filled with little check-marks of the places they’ve already been. What an adventure these two will have together in life!

Then, off we went to explore an area that we have scouted, but have never shot at to that point. They wanted a run down building/warehouse, and we happened to have a place in mind that fit perfectly.
